To get a California DMV Driving Permit, teens between the ages of 15½ and 17½ must complete an approved driver education (in class or online). If you are over the age of 18, taking drivers ed is not mandatory and you can go directly to the DMV to take the written test to get your learner’s permit.

We will be reviewing some of the most popular California Online Driver’s Ed Courses to help teenagers get their learner’s permit. All of these driving schools are DMV approved and once you finish the course, you will get a certificate that looks like this. This certificate only shows that you’ve completed the online course and you’ll need to pass the written permit test in order to get your learner’s permit. These certificates are issued by the California DMV and must be mailed out to you. The DMV will not accept scanned versions of these certificates so make sure you leave some time for the driving school to mail you the certificate.
